I was never very fond of this new generation of animation movies. I only liked Nemo and The Ice Age 1 (2 sucks), and the rest is garbage. Point is, computer animated movies all look the same. You’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all. But then, out of the blue, came this wonderful movie - The Corpse Bride - by Tim Burton, made in stop motion animation. The entire movie was shot frame by frame with a Canon EOS-1 photographic camera.
The story is simple but touching; the voices are wonderful, especially Johnny Depp’s and Cristopher Lee’s. The light is smooth and beautiful, both in itself and as a mean to separate the world of the living from the world of the dead. The music is also magnificent and a very important part of the movie. I especially like Victor’s Solo Piano. If you’re a pianist, you can listen to it here and practice along with the tablature here. It’s very easy to play, yet very melodic.
The story chronicles the misadventures of a young man from the bourgeoisie who is supposed to marry a daughter of a broken noble family. As he fails the wedding rehearsal and goes out for a walk in the woods, he meets… the corpse bride.
An amazing movie. If you never watch it or even heard about, run like hell to your video store.
